Motivation From The Fear of Rejection

Rejection hurts. It stings in a way that makes us question if we were ever good enough to begin with. But what’s even more painful than rejection? Regret. The kind that comes from never trying at all.

Most people will never pursue their dreams—not because they lack talent or opportunity—but because they fear the feeling of failure. They fear not being chosen, not measuring up, or hearing “no.” So they play it safe. They stay comfortable. And they miss out on the very thing they were made for.

When my daughter didn’t make the volleyball team, I told her how proud I was—not for winning, but for trying. For putting herself out there. For standing in the arena when most people stay in the stands. That takes courage.

Because rejection isn’t a reflection of your worth—it’s a part of the process. Every dream worth chasing comes with risk. And yes, it might hurt. But on the other side of that pain is growth, resilience, and clarity.

The fear of rejection may never go away. But it should never be the reason you don’t start. If you’re afraid, try anyway. Bravery isn’t the absence of fear—it’s moving forward in spite of it.
